VALLEY SCHOOL’S OBJECTIVES
NAG 1 Curriculum Delivery
Each year the Board through the Principal and Staff will develop, revise or confirm its plan. The plan will set out specific objectives for curriculum delivery and content, and be matched against strategic plan priorities. Physical Activity
Curriculum delivery includes planning for physical activity that develops movement skills through our regular physical education and sports programmes. Content and time allocation meet all requirements set by the Ministry of Education. Special Learning needs
Catch up programmes in literacy are available to all pupils. Groups are run throughout the school for pupils needing extra literacy support. Numeracy support is available from in class ancillary assistance for pupils with identified needs. ESOL groups are run. A Perceptual Motor programme is run for junior pupils and selected senior pupils. Groups of pupils with needs in fine or gross motor skills are run. Occupational therapy programmes are supervised and visual groups are run for pupils with identified visual difficulties. Gifted and Talented
Pupils are involved in the Franklin Children With Special Ability group. Gifted pupils are able to participate in the Australasian competitions. Gifted mathematicians take part in the Mathematics Achievement Challenge. Gifted literacy children take part in the mediator programme deliver the daily news and form the annual magazine team. A group of gifted literacy pupils are responsible for producing the annual contribution to the Junior Franklin News. NAG 1 Student Assessment
Each year the Board will ensure that its curriculum plan sets out the criteria for assessing, recording and reporting on each child’s progress, achievements and learning needs. There will be a school wide analysis of student achievement data and achievement targets. This is reported to the BOT and community with target groups identified. NAG 2 School Self-Review
The Board will plan for the ongoing review of its plans and policies. Reports from reviews will form the basis for deciding priorities for school development and improvement. NAG 2 Community Consultation, Partnership and Involvement
The Board will have a policy for community consultation. This policy will be reviewed and reported on, as to its effectiveness. Annual reports will include the achievement of student targets and the analysis of the variance and include reports on target groups. Consultation on health and physical education will take place every second year with a written survey and follow up focus groups with Maori, Pacifica and pupil groups. Consultation on the annual plan and setting achievement targets will take place annually with parents and pupils including focus groups with special interest in the target groups identified each year. This consultation will take place after the target information has been analysed and as part of the information gathering process to set the targets for the following year. NAG 3 Personnel and Resources
In consultation with staff, the Board will prepare policies to reflect its commitment to being a good employer. Policies will be reviewed regularly and revised as necessary. Resources will be provided according to budgets along with the necessary professional development. NAG 4 Finance and Property
The Board will prepare an annual budget. The Board will monitor and control income and expenditure throughout the year. The Board will prepare and implement an on-going plan of property maintenance and development. NAG 5 Health and Safety
The Board will implement an on-going plan, for the provision of safety and hygiene. A safe emotional environment will be ensured through the key words of honesty, integrity, trust and respect and by implementing sound social programmes. NAG 6 Cultural Diversity
The school’s plans and policies will be implemented in ways that are sensitive to the cultural backgrounds and values of individual children and their families. This includes recognition of the unique position of the Maori people and obligations under the Treaty of Waitangi. The BOT will strive to maintain a Maori representative on its board. Valley School does not offer bilingual or immersion classes but does offer te reo and tikanga Maori lessons at a beginners level. Parents requesting instruction in and through te reo and tikanga Maori beyond this level will be put in touch with the nearest local school that offers such programmes. Valley School will facilitate contact and enrolment if necessary. |
